They were married on the Saturday of the 'July Holidays' 1965 and, after honeymooning in Wales, moved into temporary rented property next to the Greyhound Track in Blackburn.
Their first encounter with Rishton Methodist Church was attending the evening service on 1st August when Annie Butler was the preacher. Here, they were made welcome and soon integrated into the society. The Methodist Church became their main interest, and they served the church at local, circuit, and district levels for over 50 years 'til old age and infirmity overtook them.
They were blessed with three children whose upbringing in the church is reflected in that one is now Anglican, one Methodist and one Baptist!
New Nursery at Rishton Methodist School. We now have a nursery section at our school and anyone seeking places for pre-school children is invited to an Open Morning on Monday 14th July between 10:45 and 11:45am.
The Table Top Sale at Rishton Methodist Church, last Saturday, has raised £395.11 it was nice to see new people attending, we would like to say thank you to everyone who helped to make this a successful event.

FORTHCOMING DATES FOR YOUR DIARIES
Sunday 13th July is ACTION FOR CHILDREN SUNDAY. By then most of your bulging boxes will hopefully be emptied, but I am STILL asking for your help. We need a really scrumptious cake stall to "put the icing on the cake" for this year's contribution to Action for Children. Not only that, we need people to buy these scrumptious cakes, (in some cases, the same people who make them!) So, I am asking again for your generosity, by "Baking and Buying" in order to get anywhere near last year's total of over £1800 pounds!!!!! No, I can't believe it myself, but we can only try. With so much confidence in your generosity, Eileen xxx
Great Harwood Charity Fair - Saturday 16th August 10am-12.30 pm.

A Thought for Today
RIVER, WASH OVER ME (2 Kings 5:1-19)
But Naaman went away angry and said, “I thought that he (Elisha) would surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the Lord his God, wave his hand over the spot and cure me of my leprosy. – 2 Kings 5:11
Naaman, the highly esteemed commander of the Aramean (Syrian) army, went away in a rage because the cure for his disease – to bathe in the filthy River Jordan – was demeaning. As a hero, filled with pride, he expected a heroic cure.
His reaction is also a picture of the barrier we put in the way of God’s offer of forgiveness: it doesn’t allow for us to express the proud, heroic view we have of ourselves.
However, when Naaman did eventually demean himself and bathe in the Jordan, his leprosy was washed away. Our sin is likewise washed away when we stop pressing God for a solution on our terms; and instead accept His mercy, His cure, His way.
Nick Schumann, 1st July 2025.
