Afternoon Tea & Film: THE BUCKET LIST.
Rishton Methodist Church, Wednesday 16th July 2025, 2pm.
A 2007 American ‘buddy’ comedy-drama film - directed and produced by Rob Reiner, written by Justin Zackham, and starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman.
Zackham coined the expression "bucket list" after he wrote his own "List of Things to do Before I Kick the Bucket" and shortened it to "Justin's Bucket List". The first item on his list was to "get a film made at a major studio". This list gave him the idea for the screenplay, and The Bucket List became his first studio film.
Billionaire Edward Cole and car mechanic Carter Chambers are complete strangers, until fate lands them in the same hospital room. The men find they have two things in common: a need to come to terms with who they are and what they have done with their lives, and a desire to complete a list of things they want to see and do before they die. Against their doctor's advice, the men leave the hospital and set out on the adventure of a lifetime.
The film will start at 2pm and afternoon tea served about 3.45pm. Come for both or just for tea! No charge just donations towards the cost of afternoon tea.
Great Harwood Charity Fair - Saturday 16th August 10am-12.30 pm.
Volunteers required to help set up and manage the stall. Cakes will be needed too.
There is a list in the hall to sign up for cakes and to help please see Avis Dent or Pam Shore. Thanks.

A Thought for Today
The Good Samaritan – Luke 10:25-37
Bananas and Oranges do not like each other. They live in towns next to each other: Bananaville and Orangeopolis and try to never mix. They can be mean and unpleasant to each other.
Stan is a happy banana but on the way to the shops one day he is set upon by other fruit, his money is stolen, and Stan ends up squished and peeled on the side of the road between Bananaville and Orangeopolis.
A high and mighty Lady Bananasley comes along the road and sees Stan. She is worried she will get dirty, and she is just too important and busy to care about poor squished Stan, so she carries on with her journey.
Next, the Mayor of Bananaville comes along and sees Stan, but he is late for a meeting and is way too important to stop and help so he also goes on his way.
Stan is feeling a bit upset that he is still lying squished on the road but he can hear more footsteps so he is hopeful that the next person will help. Unfortunately, the next fruity visitor is Jason. Jason is an Orange. Stan really thinks he's in trouble now!
Jason the Orange wonders if he should help because, obviously, a Banana is his enemy but eventually he decides to stop. After all, if it were him on the floor, he'd want some help! Jason the Orange takes Stan to hospital, where he is patched up, put together again and, before long, Stan is as good as new!
The moral: be more orange. (www.flamecreativekids.blogspot.com)
